Making A Difference In A world Of Need
As far as we are concerned, mission is about making a difference in a world of need. Those of us who have worked in developing countries, whether on short term practical aid and mission projects, or as long term missionaries, all share a similar experience – the people we work with touch our hearts and our lives and give us back much more than we can give them. Mission is not about imposing our Western Christian culture on people around the world, but about helping people to find God from the backdrop of their own culture and enabling them to express that faith in cultural forms that are familiar to them. That’s why we are very careful to make sure people who go from Immanuel Church, go with a servant heart and are properly prepared through Cultural Orientation.

Liz Hosegood – CMS, Zambia
Liz is a midwife and nurse who works at St Francis’ Hospital, Katete, Zambia, training others in midwifery and general nursing. Liz qualified as a nurse (The London Hospital) in 1985 and a midwife (Exeter) in 1987. It was while working as a midwife in Exeter that she was given the opportunity to work in Kenya for two years as a school nurse.
This was a very safe environment, traveling with others and living very much as an expatriate community. Liz developed a heart for Africa and had wonderful experiences travelling in the holidays. On return to the UK in 1996 she felt that she would one day return. Now she works there full time in response to God’s call.

Mark Hillman – Send A Cow
Send a Cow, a Christian Charity, changes the lives of African families with the gift of an animal, tools or seeds. Training and follow-up is given to enable families to become independent and grow out of poverty through new skills and improved management of their land using organic farming methods.
The families pass on the first born animals enabling the gift to grow, thus spreading the effect to others. Increased income allows for the purchase of education, medicine and a better quality of life
One of our church members, Mark Hillman, has been involved with Send A Cow for many years and this is one of the charities that Immanuel Church are pleased to support.

Abby & Charlie Clayton – 24-7 Ibiza
The aim of 24-7 Ibiza is to care for the emotional, physical and spiritual needs of the people we meet in San Antonio. We work predominantly with individuals working on the island by offering our centre as a place to connect, chill, check emails, hang out, and have a place for prayer and spiritual reflection. Many of the young people who come to the Island in search of fun and a good party, end up hurt, broken and vulnerable. We are here to get alongside and offer compassion, practical help and spiritual support.
We are also available to help holiday makers and anyone else who finds themselves in need of assistance. 6 nights a week we offer a rescue service that is manned by volunteers from all around the world
